About Level
Level is a learning platform built on more than 40 years of motivation science, inspired by world-class game design, and guided by teachers and learning scientists. Learning adapts to every kid, sticking with them until it clicks, and every week brings a new adventure featuring inspiring people doing amazing things.
Our mission is to create a new kind of learning experience kids choose: one that inspires curiosity, rewards persistence, helps every learner see how much they are capable of, and is available to every child. Our vision is a world where learning is one of the things kids most want to do.
Level is built for kids, the educators who teach them, and the families who support them. It’s designed for learning at school and at home, whether a child needs more practice with a skill or is ready for a new challenge.
Level is starting with math and English-language arts for grades 3–5 and will continue to add more subjects and grade levels over time.
Learning with Level
Kids learn through interactive activities, practice and review, with built-in support when something is challenging. Weekly adventures feature inspiring people doing amazing things help kids see how what they’re learning connects to the world around them. Sessions also include Recharge Time, with room to play, breathe, or explore before returning to a lesson.
Level adjusts lessons, practice, review, and support based on how a child is progressing. Two students in the same class can work on different activities, giving each room to strengthen a skill, or move on to a new challenge.
A digital teaching assistant offers support in stages: first a nudge, then a different way to think about the problem, and then a worked example or walkthrough when a student needs more help. The goal is to help students understand how to work through a problem, so they can apply what they’ve learned on their own.
No. Level is designed to support learning in the classroom and at home, not replace teachers or the guidance of other adults. Educators are part of the Level team, working alongside learning scientists and designers on the lessons, learning supports, and learning dashboards. Level helps teachers see where students are making progress and where they may need additional help.
No. The student experience is with a digital Guide whose dialogue and coaching behaviors are designed in advance by learning scientists and educators. There is no child-facing chatbot.
Level’s curriculum is mapped to Common Core and state standards. Educators and learning scientists develop the content to support the skills students are learning in the classroom.
Level’s design draws on decades of research on motivation and learning. We’re also testing and refining the experience with kids, educators, and families. Research that informs our design is not the same as evidence of Level’s own results. Our product-specific learning outcomes data is still early, and we do not yet have outcome data at scale.
Level is designed to help make time spent learning worthwhile, not maximize time on a screen. Sessions have a beginning and an end, with Recharge Time/Brain Breaks built into the experience. Parents and educators decide when and how Level fits into a child’s day.
AI, Privacy, and Safety
Level uses AI selectively, with a focus on supporting learning vs. replacing a child’s thinking. Children do not interact with an open-ended AI chatbot. They work with a digital Guide/Teaching Assistant whose dialogue and coaching are designed by educators and learning scientists.
No. Student accounts are created and managed by a parent, guardian, or educator. Children do not sign up on their own.
Level collects learning data like current and completed assignments or units to understand where students are making progress and what they find more challenging. We also collect student information like name, age, and grade level to help us personalize the experience, but only with an educator or parent/guardian’s permission. Our Privacy Policy explains our data practices in more detail.
No. Level does not sell student data or use it to build advertising profiles. Our Privacy Policy explains how student information is used and protected.
Level uses k-ID for age verification and has built its data collection and platform access policies to meet COPPA requirements.
For Schools & Educators
Level currently serves grades 3–5, covering both math and reading (ELA).
Level learning essentials are always free, with more subjects and grade levels arriving regularly. In the future, we’ll offer optional add-ons for those who want to go further.
Level tracks real progress, not just a score. Each week, teachers will see what each student worked on, what went well, and where they’re still growing, plus an easy way to keep the conversation going at home or school.
